Buzzy is a messenger that can reach people who have not installed it. That design decides most of this page: we hold phone numbers because a phone number is how someone gets reached, and we are specific about what happens to them.
What we collect
- Your phone number, to create and sign in to your account.
- Phone numbers you invite. When you invite someone to a room by phone number, we store that number so we can deliver the invitation and, if they accept, deliver messages to them.
- Room and membership records — which rooms exist, who belongs to them, and how each member is reached.
- Delivery records — that a message was sent to a given route, whether it was accepted by the carrier or provider, and any error returned.
Message content
Messages between people using the Buzzy app are end-to-end encrypted. We cannot read them.
Messages delivered to someone on another network — SMS, WhatsApp, Slack — are not end-to-end encrypted. To hand a message to a carrier or provider we must decrypt it first, which means we see it, and after that it lives under that provider's systems and policies. The app says so, on the message, every time. We do not describe those deliveries as private and neither should anyone else.
Mobile information is never sold or shared for marketing
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
We do not sell personal information. We do not run advertising. We do not build profiles for advertisers.
Who we share with, and why
- Telecommunications and messaging providers, only to deliver a message you or another member sent. They receive the recipient's number and the message being delivered, because that is the delivery.
- Infrastructure providers that host our database and run authentication.
- Law enforcement, only where we are legally required to, and we will tell you unless legally barred from doing so.
That is the complete list. There is no fourth category.
How long we keep things
Room content stays until you or another member deletes it, or until the room is deleted. Delivery records are kept for one year for troubleshooting and billing disputes. If you delete your account we remove your account record and your memberships; messages you sent to other people remain in their rooms, in the same way a text you sent stays on the other person's phone.
If you reply STOP we keep your number specifically so that we can honour that and never message you again. Deleting it would defeat the purpose.
If you were invited and never signed up
Someone can give us your number in order to invite you. If that happened, you can reply STOP to any message and we will stop, permanently. You can also email us to have your number removed entirely, and you do not need an account to ask.
Your choices
- Leave any room at any time.
- Reply STOP to end SMS from us.
- Delete your account from within the app.
- Ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it.
Children
Buzzy is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
